Our Past, Present, and Future

From its beginning in 1924, the Loy name became synonymus with quality tax and accounting services in Southeast Kansas. It was in 1924 that Wallace J. Loy became one of the first certified and practicing CPAs in the Pittsburg area. He founded what is now known as M L & Co, from which he served the individuals within the community by providing both business and individual accounting services. However, there was no way for Wallace to foresee the tradition that was to follow.

After serving his country in WWII, Mike Loy (Wallace's son) attended the University of Kansas and Pittsburg State University. Mike graduated with a degree in Accounting from PSU and began to contribute to his father's accounting practice. Mike obtained his CPA certification and played a vital role in the practice. In 1962, Wallace turned the accounting practice over to Mike, but this was just the first step in the building of a long tradition.

Just as Mike did, his two sons Michael and Mark made the decision to follow in their father's footsteps. Both sons attended Pittsburg State University where they each received a degree in Accounting. Upon graduating with this degree, both Michael and Mark went to work for Mike at the accounting practice, which was known then as Mike Loy and Company, to continue the quality accounting, tax, and consulting services that the community had come to know.

Today, this accounting practice with such a long family lineage bears the name M L and Co. It is soley operated by the youngest son, Mark Loy. Mark strives to continue what his grandfather started. He is determined to provide quality accounting, tax, and consulting services to the individuals and businesses just as would be expected in the past.

In addition, the family tradition that was started by Wallace in 1924 appears to be alive and well heading into the future. Mark's oldest daughter, Michelle Loy, has recently completed her degree from Pittsburg State University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Accounting. Following graduation, she signed on to join the firm. In February 2008, Michelle obtained her Certified Public Accountant License. She hopes to contribute to the practice, provide the best quality accounting services to both businesses and individuals within her community and help the "tradition live on".
