Do I still have to buy health insurance after the new tax bill?

The Republican tax bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, reduced the penalty for not having health insurance to $0. You won’t be fined for not having minimum essential coverage, but, technically, the mandate is still in place. The provision for the Premium Tax Credit is also still part of the law.

Remember: These changes go into effect beginning with the 2018 tax year.
