Adjusting Your W-4

“Adjusting your W-4" means that you increase or decrease the amount your employer withholds for taxes from each paycheck. You do this by filing a new Form W-4 with your employer. The more your employer withholds, the less pay you’ll receive per paycheck. Ideally, you want enough withheld for taxes so that you don’t get surprised with a large tax bill when you file your annual tax return. The W-4 helps you estimate how much to withhold based on your income and family size. While there has to be at least some withholding, you aren’t required to have any more or less than you choose.
