November 29 is last day for families to update the Child Tax Credit portal before the December payment.

You definitely want to update the IRS if you’ve had:

  • A change in income since 2020
  • An additional child dependent since your last filed tax return
  • An alternating-year agreement with an ex and plan to claim your child in 2022

Missed out on full payments of the early Child Tax Credit so far? Updating the IRS means getting everything you missed out on; instead of waiting to get the total credit when you file, you can get the entire early payment in December.

And remember, the early part of the credit is only half of the total — you'll get the rest when you file your taxes in 2022.

To update your information, use the IRS Child Tax Credit portal.
